![]() I don't think the MCU films are bad so the rest of this post is just white noise. (Making it a textual part of the film and not just, an advertising hype thing is a little silly though, I must admit). That's not to say that they don't occasionally make jokes about conventions, but even that's used for characterisation (the first establishes Buzz as a bit of a stick in the mud when it comes to doing things by the book).I personally think it is really funny that Lightyear is allegedly the film Andy saw because some kind of main-stream live-action space drama featuring at least one notable queer character who doesn't die horribly in 1995 is kinda ludicrous, but that makes it funny. Plus the jokes are actual jokes, like the sandwich scene. In fact the story is pretty much a pulp adventure with modern and nonquippy dialogue, which means if you can get past it not being as good ATMs Toy Story it's leagues better than, for example, any Marvel movie ![]() ![]() On it's own it's a well made and plotted kid's film with a good twist and enjoyable action sequences, and takes itself seriously enough that you'll except that the characters wear fishbowl helmets and nobody makes a quip about them. ![]() ETA: Lightyear is good if you forget it's ties to the Toy Story franchise.
